Engagement & Literacy Deep Dive

How does the design of literacy instruction support student Engagement?

Learners differ in the ways in which they can be engaged or motivated to learn. In reality, there is not one means of engagement that will be optimal for all learners in all contexts. For this reason, it is necessary to provide multiple means of engagement in order to reach the variable learners present in every classroom.

When designing literacy instruction, it is especially imperative to consider how to recruit the interest of learners, how to sustain their effort and persistence, and how to support them to self-regulate. For each guideline, there are number of options to provide as well as specific strategies for implementation.
